What is Viva CalleSJ?
Viva CalleSJ is a free program that temporarily closes miles of scenic San José streets to bring communities together to walk, bike, skate, and explore our city like never before. Viva CalleSJ is not a race. Participants are encouraged to start wherever they want and choose what they would like to experience, discovering a wide variety of fun and entertainment hidden along the route. Our first of three Viva CalleSJ events for 2024 is scheduled for Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM.Do you own a Business on the Route?

Is your business situated along our route? We invite you to participate by offering an exclusive discount or special opportunity to Viva CalleSJ participants the day of our event or the next time they return to your business. By doing so, you'll be designated as an official VCSJ Pit Stop. Our team will provide you with a 2’x 3’ sign to showcase your offer prominently outside your establishment, and we'll feature it on our official Viva CalleSJ Pit Stop webpage, as well.Here's how you can make the most of this opportunity:
- Consider opening your doors on the event day, even if you typically remain closed. Take your business to the sidewalk, display products for sale, or play music. Some permits may be necessary if food will be served outside, so feel free to reach out to vivacallesj@sanjoseca.gov for more information. We encourage the use of battery generators, as gas generators cannot be refueled during Viva CalleSJ.
- Utilize signs, banners, sandwich boards, or any means necessary to attract attention to your storefront. If a canopy will be used outside, it must have weights to secure it.
- Spread the word! With Viva CalleSJ drawing upwards of 100,000 people throughout the route during the 6-hour event, this is a perfect opportunity to let your community know that you'll be part of the excitement.
- Viva CalleSJ is all about bringing people together to explore the city in new ways. We encourage your active participation and invite participants to discover all that your business has to offer!
